Great Garden Decking and Maintenance

Garden decking is an excellent way to get the most use of your garden. ?Once you have it you will get a lot more enjoyment from the outdoor area of your home that you can share with friends and family. ?If the decking runs straight from your home, perhaps from the kitchen or dining room via beautiful French doors, it will seem like an extension of your house.? People with decking areas are far more inclined to eat outdoors and experience a much healthier way of living.? Picture yourself have your morning muesli with the suns glow warming your face!

Over the last number of years a lot more people are also beginning to use decking areas to have barbecues and entertain. If the decking area has been slightly raised to deal with a sloping garden, then you could use a number of plants such as bamboo to maintain your privacy from neighbours.? Decking is also normally laid with supporting balusters, which are especially important for raised decking areas, as it prevents people falling over the side.? But again they can be covered over with bamboo matting to increase privacy or even to block winds.? These could be used in late summer, autumn as it begins to get cooler, but are easily removed to let beautiful warm summer breezes swirl through balusters.

Garden decking is quite easy to lay and can be bought in a number of self-assembly kits.? If you enjoy flat pack assembly and have some basic carpentry skills you could probably give it a go, especially if you could get the help of a handyman friend.? For more advanced decking (especially raised decking) you may want to get the services of expert landscapers.? This will obviously cost more but the last thing you want to do is destroy your garden with a wooden monstrosity that could in all eventuality collapse in on itself!

You can start to enjoy your finished decking immediately and if you are fortunate enough to have a sunny aspect for most of the day your spare time will definitely be spent outdoors.

Decking is easy to maintain and a lot less work in summer time that having to keep a lawn trimmed and weed free.

Decking can get slippery if it rains so use a non-slip preservative on the wood to prevent any accidents. It is also advisable to paint your garden decking with a good preservative at least once a year to extend the life of it. If it is raised it is advisable to put a wooden rail around the area especially if there are young children using the decking area.

To keep your garden decking looking tip-top its best to add wood preservatives to it once a year - usually at the end of the summer.? If you keep your decking properly maintained you could enjoy an outdoor entertaining area for years to come!
